Here's what Des wrote:

"Just a few pics, difficult to know what to send, just anything that shows the beauty of the place really I suppose (or hope they do).

Got loads I could send you, scenery, sunsets, sea, could go on and on, like you I/we love the place, nicest place I have ever been, and I have been to a few places. Anyway hope you like them.

I do like to experiment with my camera, I just wish I could really use it properly - say to a professional level, but sadly, excitement, age, eyesight, and the odd 4 or 10 glasses of the local wine don't help, so not pro level but hope you enjoy."

Well, it seems to me that Des is way too modest, as his pictures are really outstanding and are surely much better than a lot of the "pro" photos I've come across on the Web. Bad new is, they easily put my photographs to shame...

By the way, to answer Des' question (image 4), the lovely pink flower is a thistle, although it's impossible to tell the species from the photograph. Thistles belong to the daisy family (Compositae) and are, in essence, wild artichokes. The bug is, more than likely, a Chafer (Oxythyrea funesta). It is abundant on flowers of many kinds, often destroying flower buds of vines and fruit trees.
