Blamey, M. Mediterranean Wild Flowers
Another terrific Field Guide describing and illustrating wild flowers of the Mediterranean islands and all coastal regions from sea-level up to 1000 metres (approx. 2,900ft) - from Portugal and Spain eastwards to the Lebanon and back to Morocco.
Believe it or not, the Guide contains some 2,500 beautiful illustrations of plants most likely to be noticed by a naturalist on vacation in the Mediterranean region. The first part of the book has an extensive glossary, accompanied by very informational line drawings for each entry. Descriptive texts are rather brief; they include a rather scientific account of each plant's main characteristics, as well as facts on habitat, flowering season and distribution. Most entries are feature line drawings, highlighting parts of the plant essential to identification. To avoid frequent repetitions in the species texts, many facts common to several different plants are placed in the informative, albeit somewhat short, introductions to families. Contents:
The soft-cover book, which I own, consists of 560 pages. The binding is great and the book has been holding up exceptionally well, despite very heavy field use. Click on the thumbnails below to view images of the cover and inside pages.
