Pelion Maps
"Cartography is an imitation - through drawing - of the entire known part of the world together with the things which are, broadly speaking, connected with it."
Ptolemy
Below you'll find links to the best Pelion maps on the World Wide Web. However, good as they may be, online maps leave a lot to be desired. Firstly, they are undersized, owing to constraints imposed by the display area, and secondly they are characterized by mediocre image quality and limited features, to assure a reasonable loading time. So, even though these maps will give you a fair understanding of the area, they are no substitute for a real map in print.
It is no wonder, then, that many site visitors ask me whether there's a good map of Pelion and whether it's obtainable online. Fortunately, the answer to both questions is yes. There is an excellent map of Pelion, on a scale of 1:50,000, drawn on the Hellenic Army Geographical Service's (H.A.G.S.) background, which has been conveniently colored to emphasize differences in elevation. As an added bonus, the package contains a map of Volos and a booklet, with information about interesting hiking routes in the Pelion region. The map can be ordered online here.
For all you skeptics out there, I don't make any money promoting the map. I'm merely suggesting it because it's by far the best map available and I use it myself. I realize that the last statement might act as a deterrent, but, hey, don't say you haven't been warned...
