Violet
Viola sp.
Violets belong to the same genus as pansies. Although fairly widespread throughout Europe and Asia, they are mostly confined to higher altitudes. They are small herbs or shrubs, with alternate leaves and zygomorphic, solitary flowers, consisting of 5 petals, the lowermost of which form a lip and extend backwards into a spur.
The flowers shown here were photographed near a stream, in the vicinity of Ano Lehonia, Pelion, at low altitude.
I haven't been able to identify this plant to species level, your help would, therefore, be more than appreciated. Kindly forward suggestions to Anthony.
