Greek Flora
"Stranger, you have reached a famous land,
Here, in green foliage, chants the nightingale,
Here is the forest home of reveling Dionysus with nymphs that nurse him,
Here, day after day, blooms the fair narcissus, fed on dew,
The flower that crowns the goddesses,
And here, as well, glows the golden crocus..."
Sophocles, "Oedipus at Colonus"
The photo galleries below contain representative samples of the rich flora that adorns the Pelion peninsula. Most of the species have been identified by me, with the aid of my field guides. Although I've tried my hardest to refrain from... erring, I would like to reiterate that I'm not a botanist and I am, generally, prone to mistakes, so there may be a few misidentifications.
If you do come across erroneous information or have any suggestions in respect of unidentified species, please drop me an e-mail and let me know. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Arums & Kin
Take a look at a few representatives of a large family of tropical or subtropical monocotyledons. Though extremely beautiful, many species rely on flies and other insects for pollination and, as a result, emit a pungent, carrion-like smell in bloom. Most of the plants in this family have poisonous properties.

Orchids
Enjoy some interesting pictures of members of the orchid family, which can be found in many parts of the world. Many tropical species are epiphytic, growing on the branches and trunks of trees, but Mediterranean species are all terrestrial.

Mycoflora
Although I find mushrooms and toadstools fascinating, I am particularly bad at identifying them. As a result, this is purely a photo gallery, without any descriptions, and all images are contained within a single slideshow.
