"To the Olympian summit they essay'd to heave up Ossa, and to Ossa's crown branch-waving Pelion."
Homer, "Odyssey"
Every now and again, I get a flash of inspiration. During one of those rare moments, I reasoned that the majority of my visitors aren't really interested in viewing bugs and flowers; most, if not all, want information about beaches and other cool places to visit.
So, I decided to set up a few pages with photographs, maps and facts about localities in close proximity to Horto, readily accessible by car. I have also included info about tavernas and restaurants, which, in my opinion, are worth visiting. I don't endorse any of these establishments; I merely enjoyed the food, beer and service.
Finally, I have enriched some of the pages with information received from site visitors. I really love their comments, inasmuch as they give a first-hand account of their experiences and provide an alternative, quite interesting perspective. So, if you are familiar with any of the localities listed here and would like to share your knowledge, please feel free to drop me a line.

Horto
Horto is a nice, quiet little village on the Pagasetic Gulf. It probably derives its name from the fact that it is very verdant. You see, Horto is the Greek word for grass, so I call it Grassville for fun.

Kastri
A neat beach on the Aegean coast. Smaller than most and truly beautiful, but packed with vacationers in August.

Lyri
This is my youngest son's favorite spot. It's located on the Aegean coast and is characterized by a wide zone of boulders, right in the middle of the beach.

Makrinitsa
A picturesque village with some 8 centuries of history, renowned for its traditional architecture and its breathtaking view.

Milies
A cool village, hanging on the lower slopes of Mt. Pelion. It was once considered the region's cultural center and rightly so.

Milina
A small village on the waterfront of the Pagasetic Gulf, with lots of tavernas, restaurants and cafes. Rather tourist oriented.

Mourtias
This has to be my favorite destination! A fantastic beach on the rugged shores of the Aegean Sea, adorned by a number of statue-like rocks that give it an artsy aura.

Potistika
A lovely beach on the Eastern flank of Mount Pelion, looking onto the Aegean. Unfortunately, it has recently been discovered by hordes of tourists...
